Pour yourself a cup of coffee (or better yet a mojito), sit down and relax…this is going to be a long one! Before Marie and Mike were even engaged, I photographed their wedding. Yup. That’s right. Well, almost. It was a fake wedding. When I needed some models to build my wedding portfolio and to practice on, Marie agreed to do it (and Mike went along with it reluctantly – a little less so after a couple of rum and cokes). You can still see a pic on my oh-so-outdated website.
I can’t exactly remember how or when I met Marie. If my foggy memory serves me correctly, it was eight plus years ago just after Andrew, Quinn and I moved into our new home on “Not Right Road”. I was actually introduced to Marie’s sister, Laura, at the Chart Room. We were their new neighbors and thankfully for me, they were eager to babysit. Soon after, Laura became our #1 nanny and looked after Quinn (and fed him his first ever food – a pickle. I credit her for his pickle addiction). It seemed as though every time Laura was over babysitting, Marie and her Mom and sometimes even her dad would come over to see the kids. Before you knew it, the Tournas family was like OUR family. We met Mike on many occasions – Not Right Road Christmas parties, neighborhood BBQs, dinners at the Mashnee Island Grill (weep, weep, sniffle, sniffle – that’s me crying because it no longer exists)… He was always great with the kids and was sure to get them good and riled up!
When Marie and Mike got engaged, they asked not only if I would be their photographer, but if my kids would be in their wedding. Wowza! Quite an honor on both accounts! My kids were very excited and I don’t know for how many months they talked about “the wedding”. I think it was all they anticipated and more!
So, without further ado (ie: babbling), here is a sneak at Marie and Mike’s wedding day!
Meet Mike and his groomsmen.

And my handsome boys!

Here’s car #1 (more on that in a minute).

While Marie waited in the car for her father to arrive and escort her to the church, I dashed off to the church with Marie’s sister, Laura. On our way to the church we realized there had been a little miscommunication and Marie’s father was not on his way to pick Marie up, but was on his way to the church as well. So, we turned around so I could drop Laura off with Marie to escort her to the church. Feeling a bit rushed, I literally dropped her off and flew down the highway. When I arrived at the church there seemed to be a little bit of panic that the bride hadn’t arrived yet. So, I told them not to worry, she was right behind me. Little did I know that since the antique car has sat idling in the driveway for so long, it actually had overheated and the bride wasn’t exactly “right behind me”.

…but when she saw me at the end, she ran the 50 yard dash, sobbing, and dropped the basket of petals at my knees and nearly bowled me over! Here’s me desperately trying to get a picture of Jack as he walks down the aisle and she clings to me as if we’re going down on the Titanic.

And luckily she was peeled off of me before Marie and her dad walked down the aisle. Marie looks stunning and her Dad looks so proud.

Thanks to both Marie and Mike for inviting me to photograph the wedding and the kids to be in it. We all had a spectacular time!
